The 80th annual Academy Awards were held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles last evening and the stars pulled it together for the biggest awards show of the year.  No Country for Old Men held the most nominations and it indeed win the most Oscars, followed by the other dark film, There Will be Blood, with Daniel Day-Lewis taking home Best Actor.  Now normally DDL can wear some pretty odd ensembles for the red carpet, but I thought this time (for him) he looked pretty ok...you have to respect the people that take the atypical route for the award shows.

Once again the red carpet goddess Cate Blanchett wowed photographers with her bold, risk taking style while promoting her new movie "Elizabeth: The Golden Ages" at the Rome Film Festival.  Even more eyes were on her as she attended the premiere of her movie in London earlier this week (pictured above).  This girl can make anything look good.  More pictures below.

Not everyone was a shining example of haute couture at last night's Costume Institute Gala at the Met. Take Jessica Simpson and her fake tan obsession (not to mention her glitterball dress and flattened boobs.) Then there was Cate Blanchett, who looked like she had just seen the ghost of Yves St Laurent.
